Passes Away
At 55 Years
The Rev. 0. Jack Murphy, former pastor of the First Baptist Church of LaFollette, died in a Hickory, North Carolina, hospital Thursday morning, June 13, at the age of 55. He had been in declining health for the past six months and was hospitalized for six weeks. His death, however, was unexpected as he had appeared to be recovering.
Rev. Murphy was pastor of the First Baptist Church of LaFollette for ten years, from 1938 to 1948. For th pa3yse ha.been pastor of Penelope Baptist Church at Hickory. Other pastorates included Corinth Baptist Churd in Elizabeth City, First B a p t i s t Church of Etowah, and Enderly Park Baptist Church in Charlotte, North Carolina.
He is survived by his wife and one son.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at Penelope Baptist Church. Burial was in Catawba Memorial Park Cemetery. During the services the Rev. Albert Young, pastor of Viewmont Baptist Church, eulogized Rev. Murphy, saying, “It was easy to love him. He has left us the legacy of a blessed memory to cherish, a worthy example to follow. He has now climbed the eternal slopes until he has reached the spiritual plateau, where God has welcomed him. He, therefore, is. not less alive, but more alive.”

Lambs Plan Service
The Lamb Memorial Services will be held again this year on the third Sunday in next month, July 21, at the Lamb Cemetery on Lamb Mountain. Motorists will be able to drive to the cemetery this year by turning off the Little Elk Road about one mile above the intersection of the Elk Valley Road where a marker will be placed for the convenience of drivers. The services will start at 10:00 a.m. and will be a dinner-on-the-g r o u n d affair. Everyone is welcome.
SINGING AT GRANTSBORO
The Grantsboro Baptist Church will hold its regular monthly singing Friday night, June 21, starting at 7:30. Everyone is welcome, especially all singers. The Rev. Emwitte Spradilin is the pastor.
